Want To Become Slimmer Quickly? Have A Go With The Cabbage Soup Diet
January 28th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedSome foods have negative calories because it takes more energy to eat and digest them than they had to begin with. One of those foods, cabbage, is the basis of the Cabbage Soup Diet. The diet isn’t intended for long-term loss of weight, but is an effective way to lose some weight quickly. Some dieters use it to start losing some weight before a different diet begins. It can also help a dieter to drop some pounds before attending a special event.
The diet was named for the large amount of the soup that is allowed during each day of the diet. The more cabbage soup is eaten, the more calories are excised from the dieter’s body. There are some foods allowed to be eaten during the diet, though they are few in number. The diet’s basic plan is a seven-day formula for weight loss. The recommended items must be eaten as suggestions, with no substitutions allowed. The dieter also must drink water daily while staying on the Cabbage Soup diet.
For the first day, the dieter eats nothing but fruit and cabbage soup. The dieter drinks unsweetened items such as tea, coffee and cranberry juice. On the diet’s second day, vegetables can be eaten in any quantity, as long as they are not beans, peas or corn. There is no fruit the second day, but there is as much soup as the dieter cares to eat. On the third day, both fruit and vegetables can be eaten, as well as the cabbage soup. The only excluded item is baked potatoes.
On the fourth day, only bananas can be eaten and skim milk and water can be drunk, besides the cabbage soup. That day, as many as eight bananas are recommended. The idea behind this is that the bananas and milk will keep sweet cravings away. The fifth diet day marks the first time that the dieter can eat something besides fruits and vegetables. On this day, the dieter is allowed to eat either fish, beef or chicken that weights as much as 20 ounces, as well as up to six tomatoes. Uric acid can build up on this day, so the dieter must consume up to eight glasses of water and one or more soup servings.
Day six consists of liberal amount of beef and unlimited vegetables. The dieter is not allowed any baked potatoes, and soup is required at least once. The seventh day includes unlimited brown rice and vegetables, along with any fruit juices that are unsweetened. A serving of cabbage soup must be eaten once or more. Sodas, including diet sodas, are not allowed. The diet also bans eating bread and drinking alcohol.
Weight loss is caused by this diet. However, the diet does not include many of the necessary nutrients that we need every say. Because of these deficiencies, it is not recommended to stay on the diet for more than the recommended period.

Look After Your Heart Through The Zone Diet
January 27th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedIn an attempt to avoid dying from a heart ailment as some in his family had, Dr. Barry Sears utilized his biochemistry knowledge to create the Zone diet. To follow the Zone diet, dieters must split their nutrition into a specific split of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. The ratio consists of 30 percent of the food coming from fat, 30 percent coming from protein and 40 percent coming from carbs. Keeping those elements in balance every day is the key to balanced hormones and a steady level of blood sugar. Weight loss also occurs as a result of this diet.
Doctors know now that eating a very low level of fat is not an effective weight loss plan. With low fat comes more insulin, which leads to more fat rather than less. Many diets that call for low fat fail for this reason. Another reason that those diets fail is that they result in hunger, which leads to binge eating and extra calories. Monounsaturated fats are an important part of staying on the Zone diet. To burn fat, the body needs these fats for energy. If these fats aren’t eaten, the body’s insulin will be raised, making it harder for it to burn fat.
To gauge the correct amount of each nutritional type to eat, there are easy methods to measure the amounts. The correct amount of protein is about the size of the palm. Monounsaturated fats should be eaten until you no longer have feelings of being hungry. If your mind is clear and working well, you are eating enough carbs. The primary goal is to eat only these amounts and to avoid overeating with more than is necessary. There is one exception to this- starchy vegetables are not limited in quantity.
In addition to the correct ratios of food, a Zone diet also requires omega fatty acids. To keep the mind clear and the heart healthy, both omega 3 and 6 should be ingested each day. Taking omega fatty acid supplements, such as fish oil capsules, are a regular part of the Zone diet. The supplements containing fish oil were developed by Dr. Sears, who recommends them as part of the daily diet.
Studies on the Zone have found it to be an effective weight loss diet. The period of adjustment for new Zone dieters is shorter than the adjustment experienced with different diets. Some dieters experience fatigue when beginning the diet, but it lasts only a couple of days. The long term maintenance of the Zone diet results in an efficient body. Moods, energy and insulin levels are kept at a constant level by remaining on the diet. Furthermore, staying on the Zone diet also positively effects mental agility. Staying with the diet keeps the body in the perfect insulin zone, which is where the diet’s name came from.

Everything You Want To Know Regarding The South Beach Diet
January 25th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedThe South Beach Diet was formulated by U.S. cardiologist Arthur Agatston. Unlike other famous diets, South Beach is made up of a mixture of good carbohydrates and fats, that are combined together to create a balanced, heart-healthy diet. The unhealthy items excluded from South Beach consist of items Dr. Agatston considers to be bad carbs. Foods such as white rice and potatoes are not included in the South Beach Diet, while foods such as brown rice and yams are acceptable under the South Beach Diet guidelines.
This diet was created to assist his cardiac patients by treating their insulin resistance. This effect of ingesting too many bad carbs can keep the body’s insulin from processing sugar and fat. Consuming these unhealthy carbohydrates also contributes to cardiovascular problems.
The South Beach Diet is comprised of three main phases. In every phase, the South Beach dieter has to take in the approved foods and keep from eating foods that contain the fats considered unhealthy. The initial step is the initial 14 days of the diet, during which the new South Beach dieter will lose his resistance to insulin. The stores of fat will then be used to supplement the body’s energy, causing a fast weight loss of around 13 pounds. The dieter eats three meals every day, consisting of nuts, eggs, fish, meat, vegetables and cheese every day. These foods all contain some degree of heart-healthy fats. The dieter is left feeling satiated by the regular meals and will not be left with unhealthy cravings.
In this next phase, whole grain foods, fruit and dairy items are allowed on this diet. With small portions of each food, the protein, fat and carbohydrates that were eaten in the other phases will keep the diet progressing forward. Red wine is permissible during this phase, as long as it’s kept to small amounts. The goal is to lose about two pounds per week during phase two. This phase is continued until the dieter reaches his original goal weight.
In phase three of the South Beach Diet, the weight loss is maintained long term. The dieter eats three servings of whole grain and three of fruit, as well as the other approved foods. The many snacks and meals throughout the day result in six times to eat each day. This last step is responsible for keeping the weight from returning, and can also result in a healthy heart
Unlike many diets, the South Beach Diet doesn’t require keeping track of calories or periods of hunger. The size of the meals are designed so that there is never a feeling of being unsatisfied. This prevents hunger from causing binges. It is recommended that most of the food eaten on the diet be natural rather than processed. The meat allowed on the diet is to be lean meat. Kraft now makes a line of ready-made foods, called South Beach Living, that incorporate the approved foods.
In the recent past, scientists have conducted a few studies to determine how practical this diet is. Two recent studies proved that the South Beach dieters involved in these studies did lose a statistically significant amount while staying on this diet.
